Compaq TVs launching in India on September 1

Compaq, a brand once synonymous with the PC space is now delving into the TV market. The brand is said to launch multiple TVs in its portfolio. To distinguish themselves, the TVs will be accompanied by sound from Mini. How this audio technology will change the viewing experience is yet to be seen but you can check out our deep dive into Mimi audio technology and how Compaq aims to distinguish itself from the competition in the video below.

Those interested in catching the live stream of the launch of the Compaq TV can do so on their YouTube channel and Facebook page. Last week Compaq announced that it was partnering with Flipkart and that its new range of TVs will be available starting September 1. We can expect customers to get benefits from the e-commerce website like no-cost EMI and more to make the TVs more affordable. Compaq has been teasing the launch of the TVs on its Instagram page. From a truly bezel-less design to a slim form factor, Compaq has been teasing features of the TV.

Even though specifications of the Compaq TVs are not known, we can expect them to support 4K along with HDR and even Dolby Vision. Since most brands have taken to the Android TV platform, we can expect the TV to offer the same. While brands like OnePlus and Xiaomi offer their own UI in addition to Android TV it will be interesting to see what Compaq does in this space.

The TV space is heating up in India with the 32-inch and 43-inch dominating and the 50 and 55-inch space also seeing growth. We have also seen brands market their 65-inch and above TVs in India as some households are looking to bring the theatre home. We have seen brands like Nokia which entered the Indian market with a 55-inch TV and subsequently launched a 43-inch (review) and then 65-inch TV. We have seen brands like Kodak and Thomson launch a new lineup of TVs from 43-inches all the way to 65-inches.

In the premium segment, we have seen Sony launch the 'ready for PlayStation 5 TVs' in 55 and 65-inch screen sizes. You can read more about them here.
